Sound, Silence & Open Hearts

It’s a very joyful thing to craft something meaningful to share with others from what you love. Last Saturday we had the privilege of sharing a whole day woven from several things we love.

It was back in February that we first hatched the plan to hold Nāda; A Day of Sound & Silence, on a bit of a whim. We started off with the idea to offer a sound journey, but when we found a venue that we could afford to hire for a whole day, which also offered facilities to cater from… Well, we got a bit carried away with ourselves. Happily, in the words of a friend who joined us for the afternoon, the ‘immense effort’ was ‘well worth it’!

The idea was to offer a space where it could be possible to explore both the healing effect of sound, but also how that sound can facilitate a deeper experience of inner silence. This was born from Nik’s background in Hindustani music as a sitar player, Annabeth’s practice of mantra chanting to support Buddhist meditation, and three years of cultivating a shared practice that flowed between the two. There have been long hours of practice, research into ancient texts we’d never encountered before, new practices taken up on both sides and a notable development in both our individual and shared practices as a result.

We offered options of coming for either a morning chanting workshop, an afternoon sound journey, or a fully immersive day of both… And of course home made vegan lunch from the Earth Heart Kitchen and Garden was also on the menu!

We were absolutely delighted to fill every single space and even ran on to a waiting list. It was a pleasure and a privilege from start to finish and we’re so grateful for all the glowing feedback we received. We enjoyed it so much, in fact, that we’re doing it again on the 29th of August.
